Democracy in Islam

I ran across THIS article in an email. Why is RELIGION so separate from everything? Separate from science, school, the "secular" world, even our own daily life. Religion is seen as something that occurs only on a Sunday or a Friday... Those special times in your life where you need to "call on G-d" or how about those moments where you get an eye-opener as to how precious life is. Then religion steps in...G-d becomes apart of your life.

This article identifies Islam's relationship with democracy...the type of government that Americans and other countries live under. But one thing that we must come to realize is that Islam is a very beautiful religion. It is a way of life. Allah says that he has perfected this religion, or way of life for you...that is Islam. So don't you think how the subject of how Muslims should govern their life is addressed in the Qur'an and Sunnah of the Prophet (saw)?

Islam is better than democracy. Satan has manipulated democracy to work for him. Put your trust in Allah and know that Allah knows what is best for his own creation!

Imam WD Mohammed:

Shuraa members are the most qualified persons

"Shuraa Baynahum, how this is our democracy, selecting the best minds for mutual consultation, the best moral people in our community, male and females." -Imam WDM

Q. 42.38; Believers conduct affairs by shuraa

"Those who hearken to their Lord and establish regular prayer; who (conduct) their affairs by mutual Consultation; who spend out what We bestow on them for Sustenance;" Allah (swt) says in the Qur'an "The believers conduct their affairs by shuraa." "Shuraa Baynahum," amongst them or shuraa between them. What does it mean "Baynahum"? It means by mutual consultation and the tradition, the history of our first leader of this ummah is Muhammad (pbuh) himself and during his time the shuraa was made up of the most qualified persons. That does not mean that lesser qualified persons or anybody is not accepted or allowed to influence shuraa or to participate in shuraa, it does not mean that at all.

Shura should have various levels

But there should be levels of shuraa, for the Prophet (pbuh) there were those in his circle with the highest level of shuraa, but if you have concerns like-- say if this was our building here, this building has to be taken care of. It should not be one person saying how this building is to be cared for, and what should be done without respecting that maybe some others that he has working with him may have something to contribute that is missing. So he has to open up to others and not just make decisions (by himself)" IWDM

I will answer your first question. Why is religion so separate? Religion is so separate from everything else in the world because it is Tabo. People are scared to "expose" themselves to others. I know Muslim men and women that changed their names once coming to the U.S because they did not want their culture, heritage or religion "exposed" to others. People are embarrassed, ashamed and afraid to be associated with a religion. As a believing women my religion is not something that I turn on and off. I don't hide it. I don't take off my hijab when I get to work. I think people have a hard time inter grading religion into everyday like because we are living in a time where war and crime are on a rise. People need to find religion. Then they will see the answer. They will see that you live your life by your faith. You don't only have faith in a time of need. You have faith everyday, good or bad.

Excellent comment! I think this is the case with Islam in particular. When Islam first began to make an appearance in America, most Muslims dare not where their religion on their sleeve. It was not until the Nation of Islam that the word Muslim became a household name. The Nation of Islam paved the way for the true Muslims to openly practice Islam, establish masaajid, and keep their names as Sooliman instead of Sam....and Muhammad instead of Michael. Essentially today we have it easy. Universities are spending thousands of dollars to provide footbaths in restrooms and create women only gym times! We should take advantage of this opportunity to propagate the correct image of Islam for the World!
