Weekly Wisdom - 3/13

"The first light is the light of the moon. What is that light, the light of the moon? The light of the moon is the light of faith, the light of thought in the head. You do not have to be educated, you just start thinking and can't you see a little bit? The average man, if he would just think, couldn't he see a little bit? The moon has no light of its own. The Honorable Elijah Muhammed taught us that the moon's light is only the reflection of the sun. And the sunlight is a light that is free of the earth. And it is a light that shines on the whole earth. We may say universal light." -Imam W. D. Mohammed

6:105 Thus do we explain the signs by various (symbols): that they may say, "Thou hast taught (us) diligently," and that We may make the matter clear to those who know.

In the language of Imam Warith Deen Mohammed, reflected light (the light of the moon) is the light of faith; the light of thought in the head. Revelation is more synonymous with sunlight/daylight. This is found in Genesis where it speaks of the lesser and greater light.

And thanks to the tafsir of Imam Mohammed we know that the first light that dawns for man is the moon light or the light of his own thinking. But as man stops depending on his own thinking and submits his thinking to revelation, he will move from a moon light to a daylight. We see a great example of this in the life of Imam W. D. Mohammed; moving from the thinking of his father to the thinking of Qur'an.
